Liking: Bread Bags from UMA

How do you serve and store your bread? Storing bread in plastic is very bad for it, but we find that paper bags let it get stale too quickly. So we've been eyeing a fabric bread bag for a long time, and we really like these bags from UMA. More colors and information below.

A fabric bread bag like this keeps your fresh bread warm and your uneaten leftovers fresher. But it also allows the bread to breathe, keeping the crust crisp. The top edges have magnets sewed in so you can fold up the sides after dinner and seal.

Pretty much all of the bread in our house gets eaten on the first day, or frozen in whatever it came in (usually a paper sleeve). When you want to eat it, you nuke it for 20-30 seconds in the paper sleeve and it's moist and defrosted, but not piping hot.

I just wrap up whatever I have in a cloth napkin. It seems to work alright for a few days.

How big are these, really? It looks like a sandwich loaf or longer baguette loaves would be too big and wouldn't fit?

When I buy nicer bread bread, I store it in the paper bag it came in and then in a plastic bag (left open). It works pretty good for the most part.

Those do look intriguing. I will definitely check them out because I always have fresh bread in paper bags on my counter. I have been musing over a vintage breadbox.

I love it! For the presliced store bread the kids eat (Wonder, etc), it rarely survives long enough to go stale and we always keep a spare loaf in the freezer ... but I'm the only one in the house who loves fresh-from-the-bakery breads and they always go stale before I can finish the loaf. I'm looking forward to trying these bags out.
