Getaway Gear: WineSkin Bottle Enclosures

2008_08_08-Bottle.jpgAre you traveling to France or Italy this summer? How about California? Or anywhere else with renowned vineyards, for that matter? You might want to take along a few of these WineSkin bottle enclosures.

2008_08_08-Bottle2.jpgAnyone who's carried a bottle of wine back from vacation in their suitcase know that it's a nervewracking experience. Will it be intact at the end of the luggage carousel? Will there be expensive Bordeaux all over your wrinkle-free travel clothes?

Check out these WineSkin bottle pouches next time to minimize the worry. They are shaped like a bottle, and they seal to completely protect your bottle. This should lower the chance of breakage, but if a bottle does break it won't soak your suitcaes.

They're not reusable, unfortunately, which is just about the only downside we can see to these very useful little pouches.

Yeah, you used to be able to bring your wine as a carry on assuming you didn't buy a full crate or something. Most of the vineyards I visited could ship the stuff to you. They weren't selling on the net or over the phone or anything but if you actually went to California and purchased wine you had the option of shipping.

I've done the same thing with used bubble wrap and packing tape. I usually just put a few sheets of bubble wrap flat on the bottom of my suitcase, and pack a roll of tape. I might try to fashion a bottle shapped pre-made carrier like this, though....Going to Oregon next month.

Oh noes! I can't carry-on wine any more! I hadn't even *thought* of that since I haven't been anywhere wine-y since the new travel rules about liquids.

Thanks for the heads-up.

Not true - they sell them in packs of two. Wally's sells five for a buck more. Shipping is a deal killer. Still looking for a good price with reasonable postage.
