Entertaining Tip: Add Height to Buffet Tables With IKEA

2008_03_14-buffettableheight.jpgIt's one of the oldest entertaining tricks in the book - adding height to a display table by sticking shoeboxes or coffee cans under your tablecloth, then setting platters on top of them.

The only problem with this tried-and-true method is that it can look a little dated and drapey. We wanted a more modern look that wouldn't break the bank.

That's why we love these fabric-covered magazine and paper boxes from Ikea. They're sturdy enough to hold a heavy platter, yet still modern enough to fit our style.

And better yet, we don't have to hold on to a lot of old coffee cans. When these boxes aren't holding up the buffet, they do double duty neatly storing extra linens and wine glasses on top of the bookshelves.

I love this idea. I usually use cake stands and dessert trees because I hate the "drapey" look, so this will give me a little variety - thanks!
