Small Cool Kitchen 2007: The Winners!

Congratulations to all the winners! AT: The Kitchen would like to thank all of the entrants for stepping up and sharing their kitchens - it has been inspiring to see inside! Thanks to the readers for choosing our six semi-finalists and to the judges for choosing our three winners. Bottlenotes has been a great partner in this contest, too - thanks for everything!

Quotes from the judges on Phoebe's Crisp Organic:

Rozanne: The sense of light and order, the choice of a portrait in oil tucked under a cabinet, the ‘oriental’ rug, the comfort, the class. I find it very adult. What’s so cool about it is its warmth! I want to eat an endive and puntarelle salad with Cabrales cheese tossed with walnut oil and a splash of sherry vinegar; next I want rare duck breasts tucked next to a simple potato gratin and some slow-roasted beets. Pinot noir. Fresh figs.

Chris: You had me at the painted photo on the back splash. I love the bulk food in the open storage. This kitchen has soul.

The rest of the winners are below...

Quotes from the judges on Jessica's Blue and Silver Flair:

Faith: Wonderful color and light - great use of space. I like that it's open to the dining area. The color makes me want to just lounge there all day!

Rozanne: If heaven were a color, this wouldn’t be bad. Especially if the sun were that bright red teapot. Wow. This was an interesting admixture of cool and very cool and slightly uncool and that’s what makes it great. Felt a little like the world’s smallest restaurant with its high-techy shelves and finishes. Yet it’s where I want to be when I wake up in the morning.

What do I want to eat? Simple. A bowl of cereal, the world’s best (and maybe biggest) blueberry muffin and a pot of very, very dark coffee. Oh, and some bacon. I’ll eat with the kid.

Quotes from the judges on Jennifer's Light and Airy:

Faith: There's just SO much storage! Love that it's open to the larger area, too, so socializing can happen in and around the kitchen, hard to get in smaller apartments.

Chris: I love the combination of white Corian and the under mount sink. It's beautiful and functional, easy to clean up. You were so crafty with the cabinets - buying stock cabinets and recombining them like so many puzzle pieces to get a custom look.

Congratulations to everyone!!
