Inspiration: I have been inspired by learning to use only what we truly need to cook creative, delectable meals...
Inspiration continued: ...We started by painting the dilapidated kitchen a light blue and replaced the cabinet hardware. We purchased clean steel appliances. The original counters were faux blonde wood, so we had the counters refinished to a neutral sand color. The floor was a dingy, white vinyl and we installed a beautiful dark wood laminate. The "lighting" was originally a bare bulb and we installed a modern track light. We did all the work ourselves, except for the counter resurfacing.
Tip: Buy appliances that work well and are beautiful. You want to use them if you like them.

This kitchen has no personal touches and feels like it came out of a catalog.

I think this is a good, functional kitchen. I would be more than happy to cook there. But it doesn't have that extra zing that makes it special design-wise.

Of all the things to pick on, you really think this kitchen is impersonal? It looks like a lot of time and love was put into painting it and choosing the colors and finding those nifty little spice racks - it looks cosy and functional to me, not exciting, but somewhere good to cook. I agree about the lack of zing but I would never think this came out of a catalog. That just strikes me as very weird.

agreed, zora -- i also find it to be lacking personality.

I don't think it is impersonal, just nice and clean! I'd love to have a kitchen like this :0)
