Smallest Coolest Kitchen 2007 Entry #19: Yolanda's Bold Orange

Name: Yolanda
Location: Cambria, CA
Size & Type: Tiny house with tiny kitchen!

Inspiration: I live in Cambria, California with my husband and teenage daughter and English Bulldog Lucy. We live in a tiny house with a tiny kitchen! It used to be white. All white everywhere and I feared change and color as the kitchen, office and living space are all open to each other...

Inspiration, continued: ...I found a beautiful bowl at the de Young Museum in San Francisco and that bowl was orange with a black and white band around the top inside. Beautiful. A kitchen color scheme was born.

Tip: My tip for tiny kitchens: Floor to ceiling storage with a pretty step stool and a O'Keefe & Merritt stove.

Doesn't look tiny to me, it looks efficient and well-designed. Like the orange paint.

Where are you hididng your fridge?

The orange makes the kitchen look warm and inviting. It's a little hard to tell on my computer screen, but it looks like a good orange - cheerful but not too bright.

This looks like a bungalow to me. The fridge may be in a back hallway; in older houses there was often a space there for an icebox, to facilitate easy delivery of ice.

Or it might be on the fourth wall - the one we can't see in these pictures.

I think she's saying there is no fourth wall--the kitchen, office and living space are all open to each other...

I suspect the second pic is taken from the fridge's perspective...

I'm seriously coveting that stove...

Lucky, lucky Yolanda!! Cambria is truly a bit of heaven on earth. I'll bet that kitchen is a wonderful place to cook on those foggy mornings. And me three on the stove - like the tiles on the counter as well - reminds me of my grandma's house.

i have to agree, the kitchen doesn't look small at all ! it certainly is great looking though. i LOVE the orange, and it just looks so clean and well organized. i'm highly highly jealous.

Is that a double oven stove or is one side a heater? I have a similar stove but it is not in such good shape.

I like this kitchen. I love the fact that the colors were inspired by a bowl. It's a great orange color. The stove is wonderful. The one thing I fear is that a pot handle will be positioned to the right of the right burners, someone will walk in from that doorway and.....uh oh. For that reason, I would have positioned the range inward, from the doorway. That scares me a LOT, and there are ways around that in planning. Be careful!

Yolanda, if you come back, I would love to hear how you manage to keep all that grout clean. (I like the look of tile, but only in other people's houses.. My bathroom is making me crazy)

ALso, I'm curious what are the dimensions of your space.

I envy you your colorful space. And that stove.

Thank you for all the nice comments. This is the first time I've ever heard anyone say my kitchen looks big! The dimensions are about 8 x 6.
Yes, the stove is in a scary place but we can't really move it so.....

The second door on the stove is a broiler.

We will change those tiles one day. Too high maintenance. We use bleach and a toothbrush to keep them clean.

As for the fridge.....
