Working to keep your house cleaner? Start With the Kitchen Sink, says AT:Los Angeles. They say that washing the dishes every day makes a real difference in cooking, cleaning, and generally feeling good about your house. Plus it makes it easier to get cooking fast - which we are certainly in favor of.

I don't go to bed without making sure the dishes are washed (or my boyfriend doesn't, if it's his turn to clean). There's nothing worse than waking up to a sink full of dirty dishes.

I think that doing the dishes creates a sense of accomplishment. I hated this job as a kid and couldn't understand how people said it was relaxing but now I totally get it.

I'm constantly fighting the dish battle. I leave for work very early, and return home very late- and weary. I'm literally on my feet the entire time. I have very little home-time right now, and almost all of it is dedicated to housework. I realized today that it had beel almost a full 4 days since I'd taken a proper shower due to this schedule. I hate coming home to dirty dishes piled in the kitchen, and I hate waking up to no clean breakfast dishes, but I find myself so work-weary and muscle-sore from work that I simply don't have the energy to do them quite often. My how I envy those with the space for a dishwasher.

I'm with Bacchus. It took me years to understand why it feels good to start the day with an empty sink. If I'm really tired I'll either a) cave in and use plastic for one night or b) soak the dishes in hot water and dishwashing liquid to minimize the need to scrub.

That sounds really gross, no shower for four days. I hate to offer this as a suggestion, but have you considered making meals that make for less clean up or using disposable dishes or things that make cleaning easier, i.e. casserole liners, crockpot liners, etc.? It seems to me that if you don't have time to take a shower for FOUR days, you might not feel so bad about using disposables.

I do make a lot of one-pot things, but cutting boards, eating dishes, etc. add up fast.
As for the shower- I'd bathed, but not had a proper shower where I could really enjoy the bathing experience and take my time. It was more the wham-bam-wash-hair-and-out type.
