Trader Joe's is discontinuing King Arthur flour in favor of Trader Joe's branded flours. King Arthur Flour's official blog mourns, then promptly responds by knocking off TJ's Peppermint Joe-Joes. Get the recipe at their blog.

Slow cooking with a "hot box" - Zimbabwe-style, and low-energy too.

A crazy sushi maker - What happened to rolling? It's not that hard...

Great lunch bag - Made from vintage vinyl wallpaper.

We are very sad about the loss of KA's flour at TJs. Our local Whole Foods sells it as well but they are always out of stock.

Oh no! KA's white whole wheat is a couple of bucks cheaper at TJ's than at the Safeway right next door. Blast.

Interesting. I wonder who is producing their new line of flours. I do know that several months ago - when the price of flour was literally going up every few weeks - I stocked up on several bags of KA white whole wheat flour at TJ's and then went over to Whole Foods (next stop on the long 'I'm in the big city and have to make the most of it' list) where I found it for either $1 or $2 less a bag.

I was glad to see that recent post you did on Whole Foods not always being super expensive - sure, they have $22 per pound cheeses and I think most of their produce is high (especially when it isn't even organic), but some of the pantry staples are downright reasonable. : )

Farmgirl, I have no idea where there's a Whole Foods near me other than in San Francisco and hell if I'm driving into the city to grocery shop. I do most of my shopping at TJ's anyway.

Ellehudson, as someone who saw what a Walmart could bring to a town with little else, I won't shoot you!

I am also super bummed about the loss of KA at TJ's. I only get to TJ's and Whole Foods once every 2-3 months because it's at least a 2.5 to 3 hour round trip and TJ's has the best prices on KA AP flour.

My local grocery charges $6.79 for 5 lbs. almost double the price at TJ's, and Walmart doesn't carry the AP kind. I had hoped to stock up on Tuesday until I got the email last night from KA! Though a far worse bummer would be if KA discontinued unbleached AP, so I suppose I should just be glad they make it.

The time to stock up on flour in near the winter time. I'm got my KA flour at Whole Foods this winter, when they ran a 2 for $5 or 3 for $6 deal(cant remember exactly). They also had $2 bags of chocolate chips.

I've found the KA flours at Smart & Final. Pretty cheap. Lucky for me, TJs and Smart & Final are near each other.
