Tiered Dessert Stand: Eco-Chic Ideas from Martha Stewart and Danny Seo for Earth Day

2008_04_22-Martha.jpgUnlike many of the websites out there touting things to buy, buy, buy to help be greener for Earth Day, Martha Stewart and body + soul come through with a great slideshow of inspiring ideas for going green with things you (gasp!) already have! They team up with Danny Seo, author of the Going Green series for some inspiring ideas.

Here's one of our favorites - a tiered dessert stand. More ideas and link below.

This dessert stand (or something like it) is often the sort of thing we're tempted to splurge on. Pretty partyware and dishes for (ahem!) taking photos.

But this can be made with nothing more than some old dishes, thrifted or found in the attic. Glue together and use for sweets, flowers, or display. We might choose less kitschy dishes, but it's a good idea that has promise.

Seo does offer a few purchase recommendations, like bamboo towels and kitchenwares, but everything is under $25. Other tips we like include napkins made from old Oxford shirts (great for that country getaway) and using plastic condiment squeeze bottles to store your dish soap. Check it out - it's a lovely read.

These are very good suggestions on how to live green. I have used the suggestion for the zip lock bags before because I hate to throw out things that can be reused. Martha's site is very good.
