Peonies & Asparagus: Spring Centerpieces from Epicurious

2008_04_24-Centerpiece.jpgWhat do you see in this photo? We see peonies, lilacs - oh, and asparagus and artichokes too! Epicurious has a lavish slideshow of spring centerpieces that involve some of our favorite spring foods. More photos and the link below.

2008_04_24-Centerpiece2.jpgThis is a really excellent piece and a great slideshow. They tell you exactly the equipment you need and give copious photos with step-by-step instructions.

2008_04_24-Centerpiece3.jpgWe also really like the arrangements with kitchen herbs and grapes too. Lovely!

But...I want to eat my food, not *look* at it! Aw.

I think I actually prefer the shot of them all in the bucket before they've been arranged. Unfortunately the later make me think of stuffy floral websites where you can order on-line.

There has been a great trend of florals being arranged in by flower groupings in the way they show it in the "before" and I think this one is a prime example of how it can look really great!

I agree. It seems wasteful to me not to be able to eat the food I purchase (especially when I know it would taste so good)!

I agree with other posters that it's wasteful to use food in this manner. Personally, knowing that there are so many people worldwide without enough food, well, I just can't do it. I feel similarly about making potato prints and the like. It's easy enough to make stamps with rubber or sponges that last longer.

Couldn't you eat some of the food after using one of these arrangements for a party? The arrangement with the grapes -- in particular -- seems like they'd be fine to eat.

Thirded or fourthded or whatever. Why not choose fruits and veggies that taste good eaten raw, and arrange them on a plate in a swanky but less museum-like manner, so they actually get eaten during your event instead of wasted?
