Nutella and Banana: Dressed Up S'Mores
Sunset

2009_06_16-Smore.jpgWe've had S'Mores on the brain ever since Elizabeth showed us those cute sacks of S'Mores fixings from a recent wedding. But let's say you wanted to add a little extra flair to the traditional S'More. If you want to progress past Hershey's and marshmallow, here are a few ideas.

Sunset has a few ideas for upgrading the basic S'More, and they include some predictable (yet delicious) choices like peanut butter, banana, and caramel sauce, plus some truly nontraditional layers like strawberries and gingersnaps. Or how about Nutella? Yes please.

What about you? Do you like the plain old Girl Scout S'More? Or do you play around with your graham cracker and marshmallow melt? We would love to see some sort of softer sandwich for the whole thing; the hot mess of marshmallow and chocolate always seems to fall out of our brittle, crumbly graham crackers. Maybe a big soft sugar cookie?

Oh, those look amazing... I've posted this on Kitchn before, but when we go camping we make our s'mores with LU Petit Ecolier (Little Schoolboy) cookies. Saves buying big separate packages of grahams and chocolate that never get used up, and the chocolate on the LU cookies is SO much better than Hershey's (which, let's face it, hardly qualifies as chocolate). I like using the ones with dark chocolate best, it makes a good contrast with the marshmallow. Oh, and we usually do them open face, one marshmallow per cookie. Messy, but yum...

Throw some chocolate and marshmallow (and graham crumbs if you want) into tortillas and grill and cut like quesadillas. Just watch carefully and catch them before they ooze. Funny, I just tried a recommendation today (as a trial run for a Father's Day party) with marshmallows and chocolate in wonton wrappers and it was a dreadful mess.
