Cider is on my list this year.

My parents have an antique press at their house.

I remember one cold fall day as a kid helping to press grocery bags full of apples in the garage. We bottled the cider in empty milk jugs and drank the cider every day for a long time.

I especially liked it when it turned a little fizzy--little did I know...

I miss the fresh and slightly fermented cider of my childhood. My aunt and uncle had an overgrown orchard and press. I would LOVE to have the press above (with the apples to add to it).

But we live in CA and it seems that the varieties that grow best here make very poor cider. Too sweet.

are you guys in Northern CA?

You could track down some Northern Spys when they come into season. I bet they would make great cider.
