Look! Peacock Blue Kitchen Cabinets

2008_09_15-hbkitchen1.jpgPeacock colors like this deep, rich turquoise are definitely a trend right now (as are the birds themselves). We've seen them popping up in fashion as well as home design. But trendy or not, we do love this color we saw in House Beautiful's Kitchen of the Month — and we admire the bold choice, especially given the fact that there's no painting over it...

The cabinets in this kitchen are made of powder-coated stainless steel, so they're not only pretty, they're pretty permanent. The company that made the cabinets, St. Charles, is now owned by Viking, which means you can order appliances in the same color. (Notice the blend-in microwave, above?)

2008_09_15-hbkitchen3.jpgWe considered this color in our own kitchen, for the walls, but chickened out. Now we're thinking of things we can buy that would bring it in... on a try-and-see basis. But for a simple, clean kitchen, these cabinets really pop. We also thought this drawer storage was cool, with wooden stakes creating specific nests for pots and lids.

2008_09_15-hbkitchen2.jpgAnother interesting point was that the owner decided on metal cabinetry because of the humid Florida climate; wood might warp over time.

Saw these at the last KBIS show.

The design and some of the colors make the system look almost vintage.

The idea of steel or aluminum cabinetry is a good one I believe, especially for humid climates.

I really like that color and I LOVE the pendant lights. Not too keen on the pot-pegs, though. It seems kind of silly. What happens when you get more pots/pans or different ones?

Wow, those cabinets look fabulous!

Tiamat, the pegs are magnetic, so you can move them around.

metal cabinetry sounds like it would be LOUD. It's hard enough to put away the dishes without waking the baby!

Jamie,

that's nifty, but I still don't really see a point. Thanks for the answer though!

Yeah, I don't know how useful it would really be either. Maybe for holding the lids.

hmm. I like it. Although on my monitor it reads as a steel blue, not a deep turquoise (which I am particularly fond of)...

Avocado green and harvest gold were very popular back in the day. Think about how these cabinets will be viewed in twenty-five years. Or thirty-five. Or ten.
