Grilled Cheese with Fresh Cherries from Rachael Ray

2009_06_22-GrilledCheese.jpgI am visiting Washington state right now, and cherries are spilling out of every market stall I pass. Ripe red juicy cherries, scarlet-cheeked yellow sour cherries — they all look good to me! So I couldn't help but stop and stare at this recipe from Rachael Ray's website: a suitably quick and easy (yet probably stunning) appetizer.

 
 

This looks like a great use for a grill and for all those fresh cherries in the market. Have you ever paired cherries and cheese? Would you ever try grilled cheese?

plumeria - you might be wrong. fruit and cheese = classic. Oooey gooey melty cheese with warm juicy cherries on toasted bread = heaven.

In southwestern France, in Basque country, sheep's milk cheese topped with black cherry jam is a traditional (and ohsodelicious) pairing. A wizened old man at the market once also persuaded us to put the jam on proper blue cheese, which, surprisingly enough, was equally amazing!
