Oh wow! Thank you so much for the PB pinwheel recipe! I'm not a candy maker or a dessert person normally, but this is such an old-fashioned and sentimental Southern holiday thing! All of the older women I know at home make these and I've been looking for a recipe for forever.....

We have the same recipe in Quebec (bonbon aux patates) but we add a secret ingredient : a mashed potato or two (no butter no salt though in the potato). I don't know why really, but it's my favorite holiday treat !

The peanut butter pinwheels look a lot like potato candy. A very similar recipe with mashed potato instead of butter is used to make a candy which looks just like the one pictured. It sounds bad, but you can't even taste the potato.
There's a recipe here (though there are many others on the web):

Who knew they also made it with mashed potatoes--how strange and intriguing! I guess it makes it slightly healthier than the typical stick of butter!

I love potato candy and make it every year for the holidays! It's much better for you than using butter and while everyone looks at you funny when you tell them what it is, once they taste it they are converts. :)
