Daily Scoop: Earl Grey Tea Ice Cream

2008_08_13-Scoop.jpgWe are huge fans of tea in desserts; some of our favorite cookies have tea in them. So we were pretty excited to see this ice cream recipe from Taylor at Mac & Cheese.

It's really quite simple: just infuse the ice cream mix with Earl Grey tea. This could work well with many kinds of tea - we'd love to try homemade chai, Orange Spice, and many others.

yes, yes and yes. Now I know what to do with the Rishi early gray lavendar tea that I wasn't so crazy about. Screaming will soon follow.

Edava72, let me know how that lavendar earl grey ice cream turns out. I've had it to drink before but it was only good drowned in milk. I bet it would be lovely in ice cream.

Tea ice creams are amazing and pretty easy since the tea is already in the pantry and there is almost no messy prep beyond making a custard. I like to use Mariage Freres Wedding Imperial (caramel vanilla black tea) or Pleine Lune (almond cinnamon clove black tea). I also sneak their Sur le Nil (green tea with citrus and spices) into fresh fruit sorbet in any recipe that wants simple syrup. So easy and so good!

I make a KILLER chai "custard" that uses coconut milk instead of dairy (vegan cousin family reunion = mother of invention) and it is deeeeevine. I also make a dairy version. Hm. Maybe I should enter the contest....
