Cold Weather Comfort Food: Banana and Fromage Blanc Grilled Cheese from Chow

2009_01_16-bananagrilledcheese.jpgAre you freezing? We're freezing. And we're considering a brief departure from our beans and green vegetables to make this soft, sweet, cheesy sandwich we just spotted at Chow.

It's got bananas in it, and get this: They're mixed with fromage blanc (a fresh cream cheese), vanilla, and powdered sugar, then smushed between cinnamon raisin bread.

We'll entertain objections, but we're not sure there's any better comfort food on a snowy day than a grilled cheese. This looks like it would stick to our ribs and satisfy our sweet tooth, which may be just the indulgence we need on a Friday.

That sounds lovely... Pity it's not even a little bit cold here in CA. :-(

this sounds fabulous! one of my favorite variations on a grilled cheese is a good nutty wheat bread, slathered with beecher's honey fromage blanc and a sprinkle of coarse sea salt. buttered and grilled, it's the perfect balance of sweet and salty.

Oh, get out! I'd eat that in the dead of summer sitting squarely in front of the AC. I must ask, though. Where does one obtain fromage blanc? Bet a bit of cream cheese whipped to softness would work as well. Be still my heart.
