My husband & I have been bringing our own take home containers to restaurants for several years now. We have a version that includes a chill pack which is great for keeping things cool when we aren't going home immediately after a meal. We keep a set in each of our cars (in a canvas bag of course) so we are never caught off-guard. They are also very useful if you are watching your weight because you can immediately divide large restaurant portions and stash half away to avoid overeating.

I've wanted to bring my own containers to restaurants for leftovers, but I can't shake the feeling that it would seem very rude. I guess if you have a pretty-looking, expensive set like the one pictured, the situation might be different. How have restaurants reacted to other people who have brought their own containers?
