Baking Week: DIY Buttermilk Saltines

2008_01_13-Saltines.jpg

Have you ever made crackers? These Buttermilk Saltines at Nika's Culinaria are really impressive - they take two days to make! Most of that is rise time for the dough, however, and the recipe itself is not complicated. It looks like a fun rainy day project, and Nika says that this is easy to do with kids. We just want to serve (and eat) these as a special treat with a homemade dip or spread.

If you have less time but still want to try crackers, check out our DIY Graham Crackers - short and sweet.

For some reason I find this really fascinating. Anyway, I'm glad you posted it because I like to bake and I'm trying to cut down on the sugar load for the new year so these will be perfect for my new direction, however long it is maintained.
