i remember my grandparents in florida went to this 100 year old guy for their mangos...this old man climbed up a taaaaaaall ladder and would come down with a 'shirtful' of mangos for us. holy crap that was awesome.

"i love mangos and now you will too" :)

i never quite understood the oxo mango thing. are ALL mango pits that size? does it really work? what about on mexican mangos (if that's what they're called...)?

i cut mine like he did with the cubes - except i don't slice'n'dice them off...i eat flip the skin inside out and just eat off the cubes.

what i want to know is how they cut those beautiful mangos-on-a-stick that i see being sold on street corners here in nyc!

I have the oxo mango cutter and it works great. I got it because it was recommended by Test Kitchen. They said that it works better than any other specialty cutter regardless of mango size. I've only used it on large mangos so far, but I have some small ones that at home that will go on the chopping block soon.

I would definitely recommend it. It was so much less hassle and cut smoothly even on very firm mangos. If you grab one, cut a tiny bit off the bottom of the mango before using it so that it is stable while you cut it.

i LOVE LOVE LOVE borscht, and a buttermilk version sounds awesome, but man that picture is scary. it looks like a hard boiled egg floating in a bowl of pepto bismol.

Hi!
I'm so excited you chose my cold beet soup as one of the 4 posts :)

The color was prettier in real life, but yes, it's quite pink. Give it a try and let me know what you think.

Why bother to cut it at all? Eat the skin. It's highly nutritious. Do you peel your apple's and pears?

I must like my mangos riper than twylag does, b/c the Oxo mango cutter just reduces my mangos to a pile of mush and juice. Not worth the money IMO.

I use my Star peeler (bought from the ancient huckster at the county fair), and then slice a slab off each side of the oval seed. Once most of the flesh is off the seed, it's cut into bite size pieces. She who peels gets to gnaw on the seed over the sink...true yum! Don't forget to floss.
