Today's the first of the month. For most of us, that means the rent or mortgage payment is due, or if we're lucky, today's pay day.
Here's some first of the month fun. Some people -- especially those with British roots -- say bursting out "white rabbits" as soon as they wake on the first of the month brings them good luck. Loyalists have gone as far as taping signs to their alarm clocks to make sure the "rabbits" are the first thing they say when they wake on the 1st. Maybe they should add a candy bowl?

This reminds me of my British grandmother who taught us to say "inch pinch first of the month white rabbit white rabbit white rabbit". Pinching was not really allowed, but my sister and I added a rule to the ditty whoever said it to the other first, could be the pincher while the other was the pinchee... A race around the breakfast table usually ensued...
i must admit, i said "rabbit rabbit" this morning, as i do each first of the month when i remember. i had my husband draw me a little rabbit on a notepad that i put by my alarm clock on the eve of the first.
i'm not so much into the superstition of it, i just like the tradition. it makes me feel like a kid again, and who knows, maybe it does bring me luck.
: )
I've never heard of this "rabbit rabbit" thing before. But White Rabbit candy is an old friend -- a staple of Chinese New Year celebrations.
oooo white rabbit! reminds me of my childhood when mum used to "pay" for our chores with it... it's an asian staple candy ( can i say that?) it's so good u can 't find anything like it...
We used to say "rabbit rabbit" on the first of the month growing up (it was super lucky on January 1st). I completely forgot about it until now!
Love this candy. I have been able to find it at Cost Plus World Markets...If you have one in your area. check it out..
I keep White Rabbit in my candy bowl and those great ginger chews too. The first time I tried WR, I thought the wrapper was stuck onto it. It has a rice paper wrapper you eat, inside the first wrapper.
