Coffee Cup of the Day: The Onion Travel Mug

2008_01_30-CoffeeMug.jpg

Do you use a travel mug for your coffee? For a long time we had a very systematic setup: coffee pot, favorite travel mug, out the door to work. Our favorite travel mugs are dripless and handle-free, like this one.

As The Onion says about their signature travel mug - now you can combine your love of hot liquids with your passion for commuting. Onion Travel Mug, $11.99

We can't guarantee that it's dripless but we like the acrylic sleeve and stainless steel design. Just right for juggling in the morning with your keys, bag, and your lunch.

Is it dishwasher safe? (Their website doesn't say.)

It looks exactly like the branded mug my company keeps giving me as a present. Considering how badly the mug leaked after I shoved it in the dishwasher, I'm going to guess No on this one. Condensation likes to get inbetween the stainless steel and the acrylic.

I like a tall, skinny travel mug, without a handle because it'll fit in the water bottle cage on my bike. I don't really drink coffee on the way- my bike commute is only two miles, but I like to have it for the time I'm waiting for the manager to come and unlock the doors.

My favorite mug right now is stainless steel double walls, with a red painted outside. I don't worry if its dishwasher safe or not, because my dishwasher isn't so great. If you rely on it to wash tea or coffee mugs, it doesn't work well. You start getting a brown build up that has to be scrubbed off with baking soda. Best to just wash them in the sink and do it right the first time.

In my experience, these insulated mugs do not do well in the d/w, like verily said.

I accumulated I-don't-know-how-many Westlaw mugs in law school and one by one, have had to throw them out. 2.5 yrs after graduation, I am down to just one, leaky straggler. Still, thanks WL! You always had better promo crap, even if I use Lexis now.
