Here at the Kitchn, we're always talking about what's in season, as we get excited about the new things appearing in our markets and even in our gardens. Some of the seasons for fruits and vegetables are blink-and-you'll-miss-it short, and trying to stay on top of it all can be confusing! That's why we were so pleased to stumble upon a new state-by-state resource for what's in season.
The Peak-Season Map at Epicurious allows you to click on each state to find out what's in season and growing there. You can also look ahead, by clicking on the months at the top of the map.
It's not perfect, as here in New York City our local food supply includes at least three states, depending on your definition of "local." Also, the map only covers the major produce categories, so it won't tell you when purslane or salsify is in season. And, we question whether there's really nothing growing in Massachusetts at this time of year, even though all of its neighboring states are producing interesting produce?
Yet it is a far more complete resource than others we've seen. We're also loving the virtual voyage you can take by skipping around the map to find out what far-flung states define as "May produce." Right now, we're tempted to take a trip to Texas for some juicy peaches and plump blackberries.
What's in season in your state?

In Minnesota it is Asparagus and Rhubarb for May. In June, Raspberries are added to that list.
Why don't I live somewhere warmer?

Well, I live in AZ, and there are some glaring problems I see there. First, in the winter we have all sorts of citrus grown here like Oranges, Grapefruit, etc. Doesn't show up at all. Also, peaches are shown to be in August, but all the groves around here want you to come pick your peaches right about now. Doesn't seem to be a very accurate chart.

I agree with Brian K., I live in Florida and the map is inaccurate as to what I have found to be in season here. Its a nice idea but needs some work.

That's interesting, I live in Nashville and am a member of a CSA. For TN it says only "asparagus". But for KY (only an hour north to the border), it says "asparagus, onions, scallions, & strawberries". So far in our share we've gotten scallions, strawberries, cabbage, & radishes!
I do enjoy cooking by what's in season though. The first week of getting the cabbage & radishes I used the cabbage in stir-fry & the radishes in this relish dish that compliments salmon. But the second week I knew I had to find something else! I just googled "radish cabbage" and came across a delicious coleslaw on Epicurious! It was delicious and nothing I would of thought up on my own!

I am also in Nashville and I have gotten lots of strawberries, onions, asparagus, radishes, small beets, beet greens, rainbow chard, arugula, and lots more greens. I wouldn't really rely on this map for specific details or it might deter you from checking out your local farmers' market.
