NYC Scavenger: Pampered Chef Apple Peeler for $20

2007_08_06-apple-peeler.jpgThe Pampered Chef apple gadget promises to peel, core, and slice apples -- all for $20. Sounds tempting and apple season will be here before we know it.

But how does this tool work? Has anyone tried it?

Don't forget to post your own listings here.

Does it make julienne fries (out of, uh, the apple), too?

I had one of these little babies a few years ago and then sold it at a garage sale when I was moving to Asia... and I regret that sale wholeheartedly. This gadget does wonders with apples- cores, peels and slices. Totally worth twenty bucks.

I had one for years and it works great for apples, the slices are thin and the core is gone. I didn't make enough apple pie to justify keeping this in my smaller kitchen, but this is one tool I have wished I had a couple of times over the years. It doesn't do so well peeling potatoes (unless they are perfectly shaped), but it really is the best if you are in need of thin sliced apples and a bunch of them fast.

I have one of these - best $20 I ever spent. You retract the rod, push the apple on, and crank. As the apple moves along the knife on the side peels while the knife on the end slices the core out. I don't make apple pie too often, but this is definitely the way to go!

These are also great if you have a dehydrator, or kids with braces (or don't like peeling apples). Some apples work better than others on them in terms of the shape of the apple, but it is a great product.
