eBay Scavenger: Hamburger Press for $8

2007_04_10-Scavenger.jpgHere's something we've never seen before: a Tupperware hamburger press. We're curious about this; it looks like one of those gadgets that is either completely useless or totally brilliant. The seller says it's good for forming individual portions of other things to freeze, too, and it comes with ten "patty keepers." It's about $8 and ends April 15.

Don't forget that you can post your own kitchen and tabletop items for sale at The Kitchen's classifieds!

What?!?!? Is that sarcasm, or have you truly never seen one of those? That item was a mainstay in my house growing up. Someone should snap that right up.

Faith, if you haven't seen this before then we know you're young (but then young is relative isn't it) or your family didn't do Tupperware. Didn't these come out shortly after the Beatles had finished St. Pepper? Ok?

Handy little buggers if you want consistency of thickness and shape and are a bar-b-que freak. I had them the first time I got married. Caveat: I didn't find it easy to get the grease out of them, but then.....I was young..and...you know...doing what the Beatles did.

One Eyed Daruma: Weren't they fun?

A friend's Mom had one of these growing up. She would fill em up, and we just had to throw em in the skillet. It was fast and easy for us...not sure if filling them was so easy for her.

My mother didn't have one either. She had a few pieces of tupperware that she was peer pressured into buying, but nothing more fancy than regular food containers (in the stellar colors of the 70s--orange and avocado green!). I guess I missed out. :P

i am guessing faith can't be that young - even my 24 year old sister would recognize this from our house growing up.

so thanks, now i'm going to have to, um, "borrow" this when i go home this weekend. ;)

Those were great in its (their?) day for keeping burger patties in the freezer. Now a FoodSaver does a much better job, and uses less freezer space.

I remember this! It was someone's chore to make the hamburger patties after coming home from the grocery store.

maybe it's a regional thing, because I'm a bit older than Faith and I've never, ever seen one of these. My mom wasn't tupperware-shy, either- we still have whole sets in the classic orange and green!

My Mom sold Tupperware - and we had these at my house. It was my job to smash the meat.

Ha! I see nine other people beat me to what I was going to say: "What?! Where did you grow up; France?"

I bet it would be really brilliant for pressing vegetarian burger-analogues into shape without handling them too much.

Hilarious! My aunt sold Tupperware and I grew up with all kinds - just missed this one, somehow. Lots of Tupperware though - I'm not THAT young. :-)

While we're on the topic of Tupperware, any other NYC area readers thinking of going to this play:

I'm 23 and my mom had one. We don't use it--or have it?--anymore.

I kinda want to get it for nostalgia's sake.
