San Francisco Market: Bi-Rite

3639 18th Street
San Francisco, CA 94110
415-241-9760

2008_03_24-BiRite.jpgWhen we need a specialty item such as a jar of pickled Moroccan lemons or a wedge of Truffle Tremor cheese, or gourmet prepared meals, we head to Bi-Rite Market in the Mission.

Bi-Rite is a small neighborhood market fully stocked with hard-to-find gourmet specialty items, fresh produce, health food, home supplies, wines, liquors, fresh meat and seafood, prepared/deli food, and household items. There's even an aisle with gourmet pet food.

Across the street from the store, Bi-Rite operates a gourmet, organic ice cream shop called Bi-Rite Creamery. Made with local milk, and with flavors such as salted caramel and Ghirardelli chocolate, it's a nice place to pop in for a treat after doing your grocery shopping.

Bi-Rite Market
Hours:
Monday - Friday 9 a.m. - 9 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday 9 a.m. - 8 p.m.

I could be wrong, but I believe that's still the Mission, not the Castro

I'm quite sure 18th and Guerrero is in the Mission as it's just down the street from me! And Art, somewhere in between all that lip-smackin' 18th Street snackin', may I suggest a digestive stroll through Dolores Park?

Bi-Rite is in the Mission District.

Nice foodie itinerary, art! I'd also add a newer place called Farina. They make the best fresh basil pesto that I've ever tasted:

Sorry, I'm a little fuzzy on the boundaries of the Castro and the Mission. Thanks for correcting me!

Thanks for that wig3000,

Sounds like a good enough excuse for me to plan my next visit soon!

don't forget hanging out at the park and people watching in the sun somewhere in there! It's also fun to walk around the old mission. Bi-rite's ice cream is the best I've ever eaten, and Defina is probably the best meal I've ever eaten. It's true, that block is the ultimate in SF foodie pleasures!
