San Francisco Home Produce Delivery: Westside Organics

Every so often, we're too tired to go to the market. But, we still want to eat healthy! Salvation comes in the form of Westside Organics, one of the many home produce delivery companies in San Francisco.

Westside Organics is an organic produce and grocery delivery system that allows customers to choose from a standard box or a personalized box. The deliveries can be made weekly or biweekly, there is a vacation hold system, and the prices are quite low. A standard Fruit/Veggie Mix box this week costs $29, and this week's box contains bananas, redleaf lettuce, Granny Smith apples, broccoli, mango, onions, Minneola tangelos, Roma tomatoes, Bartlett pears, and zucchini. They also offer groceries such as organic milk, cheese, bread, cereal, pasta sauce, and much more.

We really like the peace of mind of knowing that once a week, when we get home from work, there will be a large container full of healthy, fresh, organic produce waiting for us, and we can relax and spend more quality time with our loved ones instead of dashing to the market.

We used Westside for a long time until a tight budget forced us to stop. Great produce and great service!

I've been considering trying a CSA. I love going to the farmers' market, though, and hand-picking my produce. Plus, last time I checked, there was a minimum order, and it was more than I needed for just myself. Out here in Phoenix, the CSAs drop boxes off in the early morning hours so people can bring them in before heading out to work--definitely a necessity with our heat!

I did a CSA for a while (stopped when I moved and haven't started it up again) and they also had a minimum order. I just got a box every other week and saved the sturdier stuff for later on.

I wish these guys bought from local farms exclusively. "Local wholesalers" does not imply local food to me. Does anyone know if there is a comprehensive list of CSA style services for the Bay Area somewhere?

I've been under the impression that organic delivery services sort of take a back seat to CSAs here in the states (but maybe that's not true?). Either way, they're definitely big across the pond in England:

Getting home delivery of groceries is quite unsustainable, unless they're using renewable resources to power their cars.

I get the freshpicks box double every other week - I would do a CSA but my schedule is so variable that I like the option of putting my order on hold when needed
