The Alemany Farmer's Market is located at 100 Alemany Boulevard under the junction of the 101 and 280 freeways, and is held every Saturday from 7 AM to 1 PM. Founded in 1940, it is the oldest farmer's market in the Bay Area, and one of the biggest. Here's what we saw this week ...

 
 

NEW ARRIVALS:
Green almonds, sour plums, cactus leaf (nopales,) bitter melon, loquats, chard, green garlic.

IN SEASON:
Pomelos, basil, cucumbers, Asian vegetables of all kinds - bok choy, gai choy, Chinese broccoli, opo leaf, snow peas; salad greens, dill, seedlings for the garden, strawberries, asparagus, English peas, snap peas.

I always go to the farmers market at the ferry building. Is this alemany one better? How does it differ?

Well for one, it's much cheaper. More ethnic things.
