MyFarm - Urban Gardening and CSA From Your Backyard
San Francisco

2008_10_17-MyFarmC.jpgMyFarm is a group in San Francisco that is interested in turning residential backyards (and frontyards) into a collection of urban farms. If you want to have some vegetables grown in your yard, but don't know how to get started or don't have the time to plant and maintain, MyFarm will come over and do it all for you.

They will install and maintain your vegetable garden, and plant vegetables of your choosing as long as they can grow under the conditions your yard provides. Backyard installations can be as small as 8x8 or they can be as large as a food forest. They come by every week to maintain your garden and harvest your vegetables. Your very own garden bounty will be left on your doorstep.

MyFarm members can also share in the harvest from other MyFarm members if there is an oversupply. If you don't have a backyard, you can participate in the CSA program and have a box of vegetables delivered weekly that were grown in backyards near your home. How much more local can you get?

I think really this is a great idea for those, like me, who may have a black thumb rather than a green one. We're hoping to move to a location with a yard so I can start a garden but until then I'll rely on my local delivery place.
