With Thanksgiving hot upon us, newspaper food sections are full of holiday menus. Wonder what they'll have left to talk about next week?
Washington, D.C., gets a palate cleanser after Election Day with Molly Katzen's refreshing arugula salads. They also get winter tips for herbs and recipes for turkey thighs, a good small-household alternative to weeks of turkey sandwiches.
Wisconsin hunkers down for cold weather with gourmet slow cooker recipes, including a lovely dish of short ribs and a vegetarian chickpea curry. They do Thanksgiving too with make-ahead pies, sweet potato cake, and a green salad with walnuts and figs.
Autumn flavors reign in Kentucky where the Lexington Herald-Leader does sweet potatoes, brown butter and polenta - not in the same dish, though.
In California the San Francisco Chronicle suggests roasted root vegetables like turnips and rutabagas to accompany holiday ham. They also take a look at Asian pears and review some chocolate cake mixes.
