Nationwide Food Section Roundup: 02.08.07

Here's a look around the country at what newspaper food sections are talking about this week.

In cold, cold Ohio there's talk of chocolate truffles, a primer on designer chocolate, and a Chocolate Caramel Pecan Cake. There are also recipes to beat the cold, like Vegetable Couscous and Chipotle Beef Stew.

In San Francisco they too have been pondering the smoky chipotle, along with the many uses of maple syrup, a piece on foraging for wild mushrooms, and a recipe for Make-Ahead Chinese Black Bean Sauce.

In Texas the Dallas News also looks at black beans, but in Black Bean Chili. Easy comfort food seems to be the theme, with a great looking recipe for Linguine with Artichokes and Leeks, an article on eggs for supper, Greek Chicken Bake, and Bow-Tie Pasta with Roasted Garlic and Eggplant.

And down south where it's still warm, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel does Valentine's too - they have recipes for Cherry Chocolate Clafouti, Avocado, Mint and Pine Nut Relish, and Chicken Marsala. They also have Peanut Butter Meringue Pie, and some tips on cooking vegetables.

Perhaps I jumped the gun mentioning this in the NY Times food section report yesterday, so here you go again: The food section in Wednesday's Chicago Tribune goes all lovey dovey with a Valentine's Day focus that's heavy on the chocolate. It includes a guide to finding artisanal chocolate locally and a decadent fudge brownie recipe from Wolfgang Puck. The wine column has tips on seductive sips for the occasion.
