It's currently only available at newsstands in the UK! Boo! Subscriptions are available to Jamie Oliver fans in the US, but at the rather steep annual price of about $64. It'll have to be really extraordinary to beat out some of our current subscriptions.
We can get a sneak preview on the magazine's website (link below). Like his books and TV programs, Jamie Magazine looks like it follows Oliver's signature approachable style. The writing seems friendly and immediately accessible to both new and seasoned home cooks. The format integrates text with gorgeous color photos that show us how the finished dish should look along with the key steps needed to make it.
One thing we think this magazine has going for it is the breadth of topics. He includes a good chunk of recipes (over 100 of them, if we believe the cover!), as well as spotlights on local artisan products, a few restaurant profiles, and coverage of ethnic cuisines. There even seems to be a bit of travel writing thrown in the mix with a piece on Stockholm!
What do you think - is it worth seeking out a copy?

Wow! I'm surprised they're launching a magazine, given the state of that industry right now.. best of luck to Jamie! I love him.

I love Jaime too but my first thought was, "oh great! one more overexposed food network star."

I read it over Christmas in the UK, and I thought it was pretty despicable. Every article ends with a call to action to purchase products from his website. At least three of the five book reviews were on books written by his business partners, chefs at his restaurants, etc. I realize he's brand-building, but I found the overt sale quite obnoxious.
That said, it was a beautiful magazine with matte paper and lovely design. I even clipped out a recipe. But if you're not groveling at Jamie's alter, I wouldn't recommend the pub.

I can't imagine that it's an easy time to launch a magazine in the UK what with the huge impact the global economic crisis is having there.
Here in Canada, we've lost a handful of national magazines in the last several months; a slew of corporate magazines by massive companies have folded; and, one of our largest mag publishers (they have dozens of titles) have cut back their huge staff to 4 days a week.
It might be a great magazine and he's certainly a well-loved foodie but I still fear for this magazine's success.

In Boston, this magazine was on the newstand at Borders this past Friday. Saw the cover, but didn't look thru it.

Actually I saw the magazine this weekend at Barnes & Noble and was able to flip through it. It's priced at $10 and is printed on nice, non-glossy paper, probably recycled, with nice deeply saturated inks.
Unfortunately he is also launching a new product line called "J-me" which includes flatware, plates bowls and cups, serving platters, etc. and the first magazine issue, in addition to including a catalogue for the products, is basically one big marketing campaign. Lots of tight shots of the beautiful wood salad bowl, not a lot of copy telling the reader about the salad. I was drawn in, but I didn't spend the $10 to take the magazine home.
Plus, most of the content is written by staff writers, which is OK but I wanted to hear more from the man himself, especially in his inaugural issue.
Jools (his wife) does write a column in the back about her pregnancy cravings, which I found funny and interesting, but a weird way to "exit" the magazine.

Ermu- lol.
I would try to read his magazine once, but even $10 for one issue is a bit ridiculous. Maybe Ill have friends mail me one from the UK...?

My bf just got back from a business trip to London. My presents included a copy of Jamie's new magazine.. I'd rate it higher than R.R's. I agree w/Amalia that the mag appears to be printed on recycled paper.. Yes, definitely heavy on the product placement and blatant pimping of his new line. In fact, attached to the magazine was a seperate catalog of his products.
The recipes that were included looked absolutely delicious, though! I dont know if its work the $10.. my bf spent 4 pound (~$6..) which seems a bit pricey to me..

Off-track slightly, but my boyfriend is full aware that if the opportunity arose, I would be leaving him for Jamie.

Those of you in the US are completely spoilt when it comes to the price of magazine subscriptions (eg Gourmet is $12 for a year). Popular magazine in Australia, Delicious, costs $65/year (US$42) for a subscription IN Australia. Not to say that Jamie's magazine is necessarily worth the money.
