Look! Crazy Spaghetti Hot Dogs

2009_06_19-spaghettidog.jpgWe'll give you a virtual high five if you can figure out how these were made. They're part of a group of insane hot dogs we just found over at Woman's Day...

Did you figure it out?

To make these spaghetti hot dogs, you stick raw spaghetti through chunks of hot dog and then boil the whole thing until the noodles are soft. Some of you may find this weirdly off-putting, but we actually think it's kind of hilarious. And kids would love it.

The spaghetti dogs are actually from a post on BoingBoing, part of a roundup of entertaining hot dog photos over at Woman's Day. There are dogs topped with macaroni and cheese and one enveloped in a french fry casing.

Go take a look: 10 Off-the-Wall Hot Dogs, at Woman's Day (via New York Magazine)

Given the bizarre, rainy, un-summer-like weather we're having right now in New York (no barbecues this weekend), oddball hot dogs seemed an appropriate laugh for the afternoon.

Threaded uncooked spaghetti through hot dog pieces, I assume!

Would LOVE to give these to a bunch of toddlers and watch the mad giggles commence!

I'd assume you'd take dried spaghetti and poke it through hot dogs and then boil 'em?

Disgusting for a dinner party, of course, but I can't help smile when I think of the reaction little kids would have. Perhaps nitrate-free hot dogs and whole wheat spaghetti for the foodie tots? ; )

hot dogs. The poor man's filler. Feeder of little kids and secret yum of many. I've never had hot dog spaghetti, but hot dogs in eggs is still a favorite.

Oh, I saw that on Boing Boing! It cracked me up! I think they described it as a "Flying Spaghetti Monster" dish; unless I just imagined that. Disgusting and hilarious.

Okay after seeing this yesterday, I decided to try it today. My dd is such an insanely picky eater, I'll attempt almost anything. Well it was a hit. She actually squealed in excitement and described each bite...it's an octopus, a jellyfish, pigtails, etc. I can't remember the last time she finished her dinner and she ate the entire bowl. My ds thought it was "cool". Very easy to make and no crunchy spaghetti inside. Of course not the healthiest of meals, but a fun dish to have once in awhile.

Let's hope folks use a healthier type of hot dog as most commercial hot dogs are made from lip and anus flesh from the animal. I remember when I used to ask what type of meat went into hot dogs most would say.....'You DON'T want to know!'. Finally found out and that put me off hot dogs for sure.

Honestly, as responsible meat-eaters we should be glad that they're using every part of the animal instead of squeamishly crying because they're using protein that's not a premium piece of steak. Waste not, want not.

That being said, "healthier" hotdogs probably aren't a bad idea to reduce nitrates and chemicals and whatnot. :P

These things look just like heart worms (dog's disease) I dare you to google the term (but only if you have a strong stomach!!!)

I hope my nephew doesnt want this for dinner...

This is hilarious!! As a Filipina, I don't find spaghetti and hot dogs disgusting at all. Filipinos frequently accompany spaghetti and ragu with chopped up hot dogs. I might try this the next time I make it.
