It's rare that glossy shelter magazines show anything but kitchens with multiple islands and sitting rooms attached, but occasionally House Beautiful comes through for us (remember this one?). We love the creamy, clean colors of this kitchen and the deep, luxurious sink they managed to include (see it below).
The deep, farmhouse sink gives a nice illusion of room without taking up too much counter space. There's also a slim range and refrigerator drawers, rather than a full standing fridge.
The open shelving keeps it from feeling closed in, and we love the mirror above the stove (you'd have to watch the splatters, though). Of course, these efficiently designed little kitchens usually have custom cabinetry, which is expensive, but it's nice inspiration for those of us in small spaces.

its amazing how a deep sink can make all the difference. thats the one thing I really love about my current kitchen, is it has a really deep although not very wide, straight sided sink which allows me to even get my deepest stockpot in there to wash or fill with filtered water from the tap for cooking.

i loved this issue of house beautiful (a magazine i recommend to EVERYONE) and in particular this kitchen. the finishes are beautiful and it's classic but modern. i'm clipping this kitchen out and keeping it forever. :)

I have open shelving in my kitchen and can't wait to get some expensive cabinets! Everything on the shelves gets greasy and very dusty very fast.
I agree that they do look nice, especially with pretty dishes on them but ours hold the food as well. Sometimes you just don't want company to see all your foodstuffs.
It is a lovely kitchen though and I so want a sink like that.

This has to be one of the most perfect small kitchens I've ever seen. This picture has already gone into my ideas folder. Though I would have to replace that TV with a toaster oven.
And maybe I might just compromise on the deep sink and put in one of those sink/dishwasher combos.

I too love the idea of open shelving but worry about the dust. Ideally, I'd have a kitchen large enough to remove all of the overhead cabinetry, and just leave that space deliciously open.

I want this kitchen for my small house.

I used to have a kitchen with open shelving, and the dishes and serving pieces I didn't use every day got dusty and dirty. Pain in the ass. Glass cabinet doors seem like they'd be a more practical idea and achieve a similar effect...

my kitchen is only 50 square feet and i've just painted the old cabinets and replaced the sink with a deeper one and a new faucet. that deeper sink really makes a difference, especially since i got rid of my old dishwasher and havent replaced it yet. in fact it's been replaced with a cabinet for the time being and i might just leave it that way.
anyhoo, i considered open shelving but it would look a wreck in my kitchen. my dishes don't match, i keep a jumble of rubbermaid in the upper cabinets and the dust is a real inconvenience.
and i started taking house beautiful a couple of years ago and i love it.

i LOVE this kitchen!
the artwork and artful display of dishes is so aesthetically pleasing!
but of course i must agree with all of the other posters: not very practical.
still, if your goal is beautiful over function, than this kitchen impresses!
i definitely saved this one for my inspiration folder!
