This year, Padma and Tom will run the show from Chicago. We checked out the lineup of Top Chef wannabes and sighed to see another contestant with spikey hair (Stephen, meet Richard), another guy into molecular gastronomy, and many contestants with ties to New York City.
Do you think the cast could be a bit more diverse? Do you have any early favorites to win this year?
Also, Kitchn tipster Carol wrote in to tell us: "Tre Wilcox of Top Chef Season 3 was on the Iron Chef competition between Kent & Kevin Rathbun and Bobby Flay. He was the Rathbun brothers' sous chef. And they won! Vindication for Tre at last!" Anyone else catch Tre on Food Network?
And what's up with Hung, winner of Top Chef Season 3? He's cooking this month at Solo in New York City.

Richard is none other than Richard Blais of Atlanta's One Midtown Kitchen, and the now-defunct Element. He's brilliant and I'm more than a little shocked that he's doing Top Chef as he's already been named one of the Top 10 Best New Chef's from Food and Wine (2003 maybe?) as well as having a stellar rep.
