Next Food Network Star: Down To The Final Three

2007_07_09_next-food-network-star.jpgHell's-Top-Next-Chef We're at the half way point or beyond for the summer season's three reality cook-a-thons. Are you still watching?

At the start of the season, Kitchen readers named Top Chef as the favorite. But so far, we're finding participants we're really rooting for on the other two shows: Next Food Network Star and Hell's Kitchen.

After the jump, some spoilers (alert!) and more talk about the trio of food reality programs.

Next Food Network Star
Paul, the party food on a budget guy, was kicked off Next Food Network Star yesterday. All three of our picks to win the thing (Paul, Colombe, Adrien) are gone.

We're left with Amy, Rory, and Jag. After last night's episode, it looks like Amy is sure to win. The judges slammed Jag behind closed doors, but then decided to let him last another week. He'll be the next to go, we say. Today, Reality TV World reports that Jag misrepresented his military service and culinary qualifications.

Hell's Kitchen
The next episode airs tonight and we're cheering for Julia, the short order cook from Atlanta. Is anyone else sick of how often they use the, well, b-word on this show?
The NY Post [via Gothamist] caught up with the winners from the first two seasons:
"Neither last season's champ, Heather West, nor the winner of season one, punk rock chef Michael Wray, are actually living the dream exactly as it was promised."

If you're still up for appearing on the next season of Hell's Kitchen, they're casting now.

Top Chef
Top Chef is doing well in the ratings, but we don't have any favorite contestants yet. Jamie Lee Curtis doesn't like Top Chef. Do you?

Vote for Amy! I rarely watch 'reality' tv, or contest type shows, but as I love the food network and happen to catch the first episode of 'The Next Food network Star' I got hooked. The food network really lucked out when JAG ended up dropping out, he was a disaster waiting to happen. He bugged me from the first show. I actually yelled at the TV when he was chosen as a finalist over Amy. I can't tell you how much I hope Amy wins! I am sorry Rory's pitch doesn't catch me at all....too busy to go to a restaurant...give me a break. On the hand I would look forward to Amy's show. I would hope with a little guidance from marketing and 'the experts' at food network she could really blossom and help all us moms. She could really play to a untapped audience at food network. An actual, current day, mom. With the right input she could show that food can be fancy and fun, without being hard...and families (even kids) can and should eat more than mac and cheese and all the other family style stand bys. I get tired of cooking the same old things for my family and am sure others do too. Sure Rachel Ray does 30 minute meals and Sandra Lee does semi-homemade, but sorry, it just means more when the tips come from an actual mom, kwim? If you think about it, not one of food network's major stars has young children (or if they do, they certainly don't incorporate that into their dialoge). Keeping my fingers crossed for Amy! If you haven't voted...go vote, it closes tomorrow am!

I think there is a reason that Amy is coming back and I agree. I was totally suprised when the judges chose Rory and Jag. I truly believe that Amy was the only contestant throughout the whole competition who was consistent every week. I think the FoodNetwork needs a fresh, new Star. I was so happy when Guy won. He is unique and so is Amy. We don't need another quick order, homecooking cook. The Network already has those categories filled up with wonderful people who provide those needs. I would really like to see the gourmet side with the approach that Amy envisions. I don't do "gourmet anything". And it was too bad Jag misrepresentated himself. It took alot before he was willing to admit to his untruthfulness. If someone hadn't spilled the beans, it would have been wrong. Now he can grow up and learn from his mistakes and Amy can teach us gourmet cooking from a whole new angle. GO AMY!!!!
