Next Food Network Star Begins Again This Sunday

Incoming! Another food reality show ... The Next Food Network Star starts on Sunday night. Adam Roberts, The Amateur Gourmet, interviewed each contestant here. Any early favorites?

Next Food Network Star manages to be less sexy than Top Chef and quieter than Hell's Kitchen (Yes, CHEF!!) ... and that's why we like this show.

Plus, doesn't the prize on NFNS feel more tangible? Are we really to believe that Gordon Ramsay allows the winner of his show run one of his kitchens? Is the "title of Top Chef" and a lot of Gladware really a valuable prize?

NFNS follows through and Food Network really does air the winner's series, however briefly. Amy's The Gourmet Next Door is already off the air. (Season 2 winner Guy Fieri is still slinging hash on Food Network ... and we still wish Nathan Lyon won that season.)

Pshew! Who knew we had so much to say about a new reality show. Your turn, tell us what you know ...

I felt badly for Shane. He's only nineteen and Bobby Flay made him cry. At least Flay seemed to connect with him by acknowledging the shared feeling that when you put food before your customer and it isn't good, its a very personal failure. His accomplishments at 19 are fantastic, but with professional chefs with years of experience in the competition, he's not likely make it.

I do not like that Lisa. She's full of herself and I haven't a clue as to what she was talking about when she goes on about deconstructing. At least she had Alton Brown and the others mystified, too. They should have sent her home first, just for being the most annoying person in the competition.

After last year's debacle with the near winner misrepresenting himself, I daresay they must have been a lot more careful about background checks. As for last year's winner, Amy was good during the competition and then her show was a yawner. I watched three episodes and gave it up.

Guy Fieri isn't bad, but I didn't discover "The Next Food Network Star" until last year.
