Meet Food Network's New Guy, Danny Boome

2008_02_06_danny-boome-3.jpgLook out Jamie Oliver!

There's another chirpy Brit joining the Food Network lineup. Danny Boome's new series Rescue Chef will premiere on March 1 at noon ET/PT.

We haven't seen a preview yet, but this show seems geared to kitchen newbies. Boome will rescue viewers across America from "culinary meltdown," the Food Network tells us.

We'll see Danny help a schoolteacher recreate her wedding's short ribs recipe for an anniversary dinner and watch Danny help a family perfect Grandma's Mexican enchiladas.

British-born Danny Boome runs a cooking school and has hosted cooking shows in Canada and the UK, including UKTV Food's Local Food Heroes which spotlighted local purveyors from across England. We hear he was once a semi-pro hockey player too.

We haven't seen his previous shows? Have you?

Check out this equation from Food Network Addict:
Men who cook = sexy. Accents * men cooking = food network hit?

This sounds exactly, like Food 911...which got cancelled a few years back. (I know this because I was supposed to be on an episode of it but I was told that all further productions were cancelled - for good.)

It's nice to see someone else materializing on another one of my ideas. Oh well, eventually I will run out of ideas and that will not happen anymore.

I'm in Australia and have seen one of Danny's previous shows from the UK. He's lovely to listen to and not bad to look at either.

Oh, and he knows his way around a kitchen, too :-)

Raspberry eggplant--they're still showing episodes; are those all reruns?

There used to be a show about a chef who'd snag women in Whole Foods supermarkets and go home with them to teach them how to cook a nice dinner for their families. When the families came home, they'd be freaked out by the big TV crew who'd appeared out of nowhere in their house. The chef was fairly handsome, and sometimes the husbands would see him with their wives and look really upset before even noticing the TV crew. I forgot the show's name. Not quite the same, but it reminded me of that.

I remember that show.

Wasn't it hosted by Gordon Elliot? And the celebrity chef who does the Applebee's entrees was usually the guy who cooked. He would have to root through the person's fridge and pantry to find something to cook.

The show is called Take Home Chef and they still show it on TLC. Yeah, it's fun to see the husband/boyfriend's reaction even if it's slightly uncomfortable. And I can't get over how the majority of the time, these people have beautiful homes. I guess what can you expect from a Whole Foods clientele.
