We read in the Times yesterday that Martha Stewart has a new show coming out. Only (get this!) it's going to be a Mystery Science Theater 3000-style sendup of old material from her shows, AND it's hosted by her own daughter.
Sounds like a joke, right? Well, it's real, and Martha came up with the idea herself. It's part of a plan to win newer, younger viewers by mocking her do-it-all image. (Whittling sticks for marshmallows, anyone?) For half an hour, the two hosts - one of which is indeed Alexis Stewart - will critique play-by-plays of Martha's old shows. So of course we're curious - what do you think? Will you watch "Whatever, Martha!" and do you think it will win her new viewers? Links to more info about the show after the jump.

Even hotter if it was not her daughter doing the critique.

Because making fun of people is just good tv...

But this just seems like a sneaky ploy to me. Even if you dislike Martha, she still profits. I find it kind of upsetting, honestly.

I don't think it's sneaky. I think it's good marketing. By being able to make fun of herself and not take herself too seriously, she's bringing herself down (closer at least) to the average person's level. And ridiculous marshmallow skewers aside, I think there will still be some good tips and ideas to take away from the show.

Martha Stewart and her daughter have the strangest mother/daughter dynamic Ive ever seen.

i'm not sure what to think... the concept is interesting and i'd probably check it out if i had cable. but if her daughter is the host, i'm sure the trashing comments will be censored - and what fun is that?

What's wrong with Martha gaining profits from this? It seems like misogyny, or more specifically a hatred of Martha (which probably boils down to jealousy).

The two hosts are Alexis Stewart and Jennifer Koppelman Hutt - I listen to their show a couple times a week on the way home from work on Sirius radio. I think they're so funny. Also, I don't think it's at all sneaky/will be censored with her daughter as host... her daughter is pretty ruthless. I'll probably watch it if I can catch it, but I don't think I'll plan to.

I wish her daughter weren't working on the show.

I think it's a great idea that it's her daughter doing it. I love Martha, and Martha-bashing isn't new. If someone else did it, it would simply be yet another mean-spirited Martha bashing show. Coming from her daughter, it makes seem more humorous and good natured (I hope.)

I don't think I'll bother to watch. I don't have any strong feelings for or against Martha, so I don't think I would find this interesting. It seems like a one-joke show that would get old fast.

I lost interest as soon as I read her daughter was running the show. Yawn.

I agree with Jooly. I think perhaps as a once a year special hosted by comedians it might have a chance. But as a weekly show? It isn't going to last.
And part of the fun of watching her show is snorting and going, "yeah right!" yourself. Who wants someone else to make their jokes for them?

I'd say hot if I didn't think Alexis and Jenifer were irritating. I'd watch an episode, but don't think those 2 are funny enough to carry it. I'd give it a watch though.

I don't know what it is about Alexis, but I just *do not* like her. She is just not appealing to me at all. And I love Martha. Maybe it's her hair?

I don't exactly have my finger on the pulse of the television viewing audience, and I don't have a tv myself. Nonetheless, it sounds interesting to watch half of a show once or twice, but not enough to keep me. If there was a cool, winging it, modern/youthful/realistic, diy-homey show, *and* it made fun of old Martha clips, that would make sense and have some staying power. Otherwise, while it might be amusing, it's a joke that will get old pretty quickly... and every show is gonna be the same joke over and over again.

alexis is.... grating. Nope.

I listen to the Whatever radio show on Sirius every day and LOVE it. I don't know how the show would work if Alexis wasn't part of it actually...I can't wait to watch.
