Food TV Round Up: Week of December 11, 2006

Tuesday author and political pundit, Arianna Huffington joins Martha Stewart to make a classic Greek holiday cookie called Melomakarona. Okay, who here believes Ms. Huffington has ever baked anything in her life?

Wednesday on Top Chef, Ted Allen Queer Eye's resident foodie, joins Padma, Tom, and Gail as this week's guest judge. Also dropping by is haughty season one contestant Stephen Aspirino. This could be good.

Thursday Nigella Lawson purrs her way through a very English Christmas Special. On the menu are Hot Spiced Prawns, Tagliata with Rosemary and Garlic Potatoes, a Christmas Shepherd’s Pie, and a Cranberry-Orange and Almond Pudding.

Friday Rachael Ray is doing another one of her supersized Holiday Specials. This time she'll be making Roasted Beef Tenderloin with Roasted Pepper and Black Olive Sauce, Asparagus with Gremolata, and for dessert Eggnog-Panettone Bread Pudding.

Saturday on Good Deal with Dave Lieberman, Dave makes an elegant little dinner of Silky Cauliflower Soup with Parmesan Crisps, Braised Hoisin Beer Short Ribs with Creamy Mashed Yukons and Sesame Snow Peas. To finish off the meal, he does a gelatin made from Cava.

That episode of "Good Deal with...." aired in Canada about a month or so ago. I tried the hosin short ribs and they are excellent and easy.

I saw Nigella's special over the weekend. I was looking forward to it, but I didn't think it was that great. I thought it was pretty and cheery, but the recipies didn't seem creative or much different from what she's already done in the series now running. The brownie recipe was a repeat. I'd already gone though her recipes looking for holdiay ideas, so I was hoping she'd share something new.
