Good Food with Evan Kleiman: Rocky Mountain Oysters and Other Infamous Euphemisms

Did anyone else catch Good Food this past week? It was chock full of goodies, but we were particularly tickled by Evan Kleiman's discussion with Eddie Lin regarding favorite euphemisms for...er...otherwise unsavory foods. Here some of our favorites and tell us yours after the jump!

Unsurprisingly, the most colorful euphemisms seem pertain to animal testicles. From bulls, we get rocky mountain oysters and cowboy caviar. If you know where to look, you can also sample some lamb fries and rooster fries (which Lin says aren't too bad, if a bit gamey).

Kleiman and Lin also mention "escargot" and "carpaccio" as food euphemisms. This seems a matter of linguistic perspective to us, although we'd agree that "carpaccio" does sound a lot more appetizing than "thinly sliced raw meat."

"Sweetbreads" gets a few mentions. This term had us fooled through much of our early culinary explorations, and like Kleiman, we were quite shocked when we found out that it actually refers to cooked thymus glands!
