Good Eats: Rate Your Fruit Choice on Taste and Difficulty

2008_02_28-Eats.jpgThere's something about the fruit coverage at Serious Eats; last week it was branded fruit and this week it's a graph of fruit rated according to each variety's respective taste and difficulty of eating from comic site xkcd. Do you agree, disagree with the various ratings? Sound off below; plus, see more good links from our weekly roundup of Serious Eats, including what to eat when you're pregnant, saving the honeybees, and chocolate pencils.

Dinner Tonight: Healthy Green Bean and Radish Salad - Oh this looks so good. Bright and cheery. We are digging radishes.

Chocolate Pencils with a sharpener for chocolate shavings - Yum! And pretty. Where was this during Chocolate Week?

Eating for Two: What to Eat While Pregnant - Robin Bellinger explores the very exciting new world of eating while pregnant - all sorts of things to consider...

Can We Save the Honey Bees and Eat Seriously Delicious Ice Cream? Yes, We Can - Honeybees are in trouble and Häagen-Dazs is working on it, raising money with their Vanilla Honey Bee ice cream. This is good because up to 60% of their flavors are at risk if honey production drops off. Ed Levine gives this flavor with a cause a thumbs up.

I love grapefruit! Should totally be higher on the tasty scale. Above grapes for sure, methinks.

What's with this scale, anyway - it's like a "Dead Poets Society" flashback...

I'm in a bit of disagreement about indicating that peaches are almost as easy as grapes and strawberries to eat. Maybe it's because I use them in cooking more often than just eating them out of hand, but peaches can be a right royal pain in the *** to de-pit (not to mention peel, if called for in the recipe).

I also think Oranges are pretty delicious - and not especially difficult to eat. Since they come in their own wrapper they're convenient and easy to shove into your bag for a snack-on-the-run.

Sadly, I am allergic to 6 out of the 9 "tasty and easy" fruits.

Pomegranites are getting the shaft here, I think. Difficult -- yeah, maybe -- but way tasty! And versatile!

I've also got to stick up for the tomatoes. This person has obviously never had some of the heirloom varieties out there.
Plus, cherry & grape tomatoes are WAY easy -- and tasty.

Clementines and bananas are easiest, Grapefruit and oranges are placed wrong as they are delicious and easy to peel and eat. Cherries are the most fun to eat of all fruits because of biting off the stem and biting out the pit.
