Food Blog Watch: Heart-Shaped Food for Valentine's

2008_12_19-Hearts.jpgHeart-shaped food is practically irresistable this time of year, and the food blogosphere has found a myriad of ways to turn ordinary food into the shape of a heart. Here are fifteen different foods shaped like hearts -- some are obvious candidates and others, not so much.

These are just a handful, of course. Have you seen any particularly clever or pretty heart-shaped food this year?

Photos above are in bold below.

Sugar cookies

Peppermint marshmallows

Soup croutons

Strawberry ice cream

Breakfast eggs

Potato and cheese empanadas

Greens and cheese pie

Fortune cookies

Peppermint patties

Cranberry tarts

Ravioli

Conversation heart mini cakes

Jell-O

Whoopie pies

Flourless chocolate cake

i hate heart-shaped food. good food shows love, no oh-so-sweet-gimmicks necessary.

If I plonked a plate of heart-shaped food down in front of my husband, he would most likely be bewildered, and then nervous that expectations were going to rise across the board for Valentine's Day.

Oh my, peppermint patties! What a great idea. If you're a little more cynical, behold the bleeding heart cupcake: http://www.yumsugar.com/1024600

Well, personally, my eight-year-old would love it if I made her conversation heart cakes. And since I'm not married, I think I'll be doing just that. I appreciate it for the occasion, not for everyday and everyone.

I think it is a fun and whimisical way to eat, even if it is only once/year. I plan to do the same for my almost one-year old daughter when she is old enough to understand.
