Food Blog Spotlight: Food In Jars

2009_06_10-Jars.jpgYou all know that we are semi-crazy about jars in the kitchen. We love to use 'em for storing stuff, serving lemonade, and canning our own jam. They are quiet and practical Good Things. Well, we are delighted that there is now a blog written strictly about jars and the food that comes in them: Food In Jars.

2009_06_10-Jars02.jpg2009_06_10-Syrup.jpgIt's written by Marisa McClellan, formerly the managing editor of Slashfood, and also the judge on last winter's February Jumpstart DIY event. She's a fun and knowledgeable blogger, and we are enjoying this new venture from her so much. She covers canning, preserving, favorite jars, and food found in jars (like pickles from Amish country). She also regularly has tips for food in jars, like when and how to buy used jars, and ideas for labeling. It's a rich resource of great info, recipes, and lovely photos.

Considering that many of our favorite foods reside in jars this blog has been a welcome read!

Love it! I've been eating Marisa's blood orange marmalade for awhile now (and used some to glaze some chicken!) and it's delicious....

I was lucky enough to sample Marisa's wares at the last Philly Food Blogger Potluck. She (and her marmalade) are awesome!

Anyone else think of that bit in Gourmet last Fall, where they featured all picnic foods in jars? They had about 5 or 6 recipes, and were fairly sophisticated. Haven't tried any, but this sounded particularly good: http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Smoked-Salmon-with-Egg-Salad-and-Green-Beans-243211
I love the idea of just packing one jar for everyone - so discrete, and nothing to blow away.
