The Civic Center Farmer's Market is held every Wednesday from 8 AM to 2 PM on Market Street between 7th and 8th Streets, in the former United Nations Plaza. Since it's so close to Little Saigon, there are often produce stands selling Southeast Asian vegetables. There's a seafood truck, and usually another farmer is there selling live chickens, pheasant, and squab.
We saw a lot of winter roots (rutabagas, beets, turnips) and citrus, and we saw the new signs of Spring with the color green prevalent in food everywhere - baby spinach, cilantro, pea shoots, sweet potato leaves, Thai basil, baby broccoli, and salad greens.
The seafood truck was selling fresh spiral whelks, a popular fixture in Asian cuisine.

Top: pea shoots. Bottom: sweet potato leaves. Both are used in Asian cuisine in soups and stir-frys.
Lemongrass was very cheap - these big bunches were $1 each! It's a necessary ingredient for curries.
Eat more greens! There were tons of baby Asian vegetables available for steaming, stir-frying, and soups.

I love this market! It's held on Sundays as well.

"The former United Nations Plaza"? It's still UN Plaza, isn't it? Or was it torn out recently?
