Farmer's Market Report: Bristol, Vermont

2008_06_19-Vermont.jpgReader Raedia sent us a farmers market report from Vermont, along with some delicious photos. She says:

Our highly anticipated farmer's market here in Bristol, Vermont, just opened last week. It's so wonderful to have the first local greens, peas, radishes and strawberries of the year... we were nibbling on the snap peas for the whole walk home. We also got Vermont Ayr cheese from heritage Ayrshire cows, organic hand-shelled black beans, and blueberry honey.

More photos below, including one of Raedia sporting a market bag we really, really like!

All that greenery looks so lovely! This weekend will be farmer's market #3, it's so great when they grow each time and you know there will be new surprises every Saturday morning!

Can you tell us what blueberry honey tastes like? Sounds awesome!

I live about 20 minutes north of Bristol, in Hinesburg, VT. I made my first trip to our farmer's market yesterday. I got some baby radishes, garlic scapes, and rainbow chard. Yea for Vermont farmers and localvores!

Thanks for the comments! The blueberry honey was really nice, a little bit milder than the clover honey that we also sampled. The beekeeper said it was from last year, since blueberries flower in the fall, and clover flowers in the spring - so that might account for some of the difference, too.

The Hinesburg market was hoppin' when we drove by last week - it's awesome to see so many people supporting their local farmers!
