It's the first day of summer! This makes us think of tomatoes, strawberries, watermelon and corn. The tomatoes in your backyard may not be so big as these quite yet; ours are the size of blueberries, just beginning to swell among the leaves of our patio bush.
Other than watching tomatoes grow, here are a few things we enjoyed from the last week here at The Kitchn:
• Turns out that quite a few of you went and bought this pan after we wondered why it was so popular. Guess there's a good reason for it!
• Weekend drinking: There's quite a lot to choose from. Frozen strawberry margaritas, updated sangria, and Vesper Lillet martinis. Hmmm - dilemma.
• Blueberries, stone fruit, and yes, tomatoes are out in the California markets.
• We met Martha and Emeril! See what we asked them, plus photos of what we ate and drank.
• Sweet things this week! Strawberry yogurt popsicles. Coconut jam and banana bars. Honey Lavender Panna Cotta.
• We also identified a sweet mystery fruit.
• Any more recommendations for good everyday dishes?
• Here are some alternatives to the much-lamented Tastespotting.
• Try making a breakfast sandwich this weekend.
• And our pick for supper, soon: Chilled Pea Soup with Radish and Mango Relish.

I'm making strawberry jam and splitting the batch into plain, balsamic and lavender. On a related note, why are Kerr wide-mouth half-pint mason jars so damn hard to find? They're the perfect shape for just about everything.

We are have a dinner party to kick off summer & the odd 90 degree weather we are having .... grilled make your own pizzas (using Jamie Oliver dough), berry cobbler, homemade mascapone ice cream, fig and blue cheese tart, lots of veggie stuff using heirlooms, squash, beans and I want to try making strawberry jam using some of these Blue Organics which are the BEST..

My daughter and I hit the Union Square farmers market this morning for a huge quantity of strawberries. Most of them will simply be cleaned, sliced, and eaten, but some will become strawberry bread because we can't eat this much before it rots!
Lately my daughter doesn't feel the trip to Union Square is complete unless we see The Peeler Man, so I did indeed purchase a Swiss peeler from the crazy Brit and I can honestly say YES! It IS the best vegetable peeler I ever used.

I realized we had some two-day-old Portuguese buns in the breadbox, as well as some baby zucchinis and asparagus AND havarti in the fridge, so I took advantage of serendipity to finally try out the strata recipe you posted a while back. So easy and tasty! I can see this as a year-round go-to recipe any time we have leftover bread and seasonal vegetables kicking around.
