Dreamy Meal for Valentine's: Art's Rustic Meal in Spain

2008_02_14-Art.jpg

We have to say - this impromptu Valentine's Day Dreamy Meal contest was one of our favorite extracurricular activities ever, here at The Kitchn. The breadth and inventiveness of your entries made picking a giveaway winner very difficult! See our pick (maybe two?) a little later today.

For now, here's Art with a quiet, deliciously simple meal in Spain...

Why does this photo inspire you? Art says...

I am inspired by this photo of a simple dinner because it captures a moment that my wife and I created for the purpose of being together, alone in a special place. The rustic meal was inspired by the local produce of Hondarribia, a coastal town in the Gipuzkoa region of Spain's Basque country. It was fresh, easy and fun. Thin slices of Jamon, manchego cheese, apples, pate, fresh baked bread, Gateau Basque, hard cider and red wine.

Bourbon Chicken Liver Pate - This is a quick and easy recipe for chicken liver paté.
Prosciutto, Pear And Fennel Salad - This salad calls for prosciutto which is very similar to Spanish Jamon. Persimmons could be substituted with slices of Asian pear and pomegranite vinegar can be made by mixing together a light vinegar with pomegranite molasses.
Almond Tart (Tarta De Almendras) - This almond tart is similar to a Gateau Basque.

Good luck Art!
