Breakfast in Bed: Menu Recommendations?

2009_02_13-BreakfastinBed.jpgFor all that it's touted as the height of snuggly luxury, we recently realized that we have never actually made or been served breakfast in bed. We'd like to give it a try, but it seems like it could end up being a lot messier and less relaxing than anticipated. Have you ever had breakfast in bed?

We can't help but think we'd end up spilling coffee or scattering muffin crumbs all over the sheets - even if we had a sturdy breakfast tray across our laps!

We're guessing it might be best to stick with less-messy dishes like these:

Ham and Cheese Breakfast Casserole
Parsley and Garlic Frittata
Quick Cinnamon Rolls
Lemon and Honey Fruit Salad
Orange Smoothie
Broiled Grapefruit

If you're a fan of breakfast in bed, what do you recommend serving?

Oh, and I think any breakfast-in-bed menu should include a massage! ;)

I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to be served breakfast in bed. However, until my DD learns to sleep past 6:30a this will only be a thing of my dreams. Although, she and I both adore french toast and will be making it tomorrow morning!

I have only been *served* breakfast in bed once, but that doesn't stop me from frequently enjoying breakfast in bed! It's really not that dangerous if you utilize the nightstand or dresser for your coffee and other easily tipped items.

I have always found that taking the time to make breakfast in bed for someone just takes so long and is so noisy in a tiny appartment that it wakes the other person up! So I reccomend having something ready - programming the coffeemaker to go off in the morning and having some kind of casserole/fruit/pastry at the ready for a quick setup. I have to say this is only an idea, since I've never carried it off, but I am planning to try it since I know the other way is too much for me.

As a child, I remember my brother bringing my mom Cheerios in bed for Mother's Day. And I remember the next year he was redirected to setting the table for breakfast (which he did with every dish in the cupboard).

What I'd really want for a genuinely relaxing breakfast would have to include an entire pot of coffee in a French press, a nice slice of frittata or the like, fruit, and pastries. Somehow the idea of consuming this in my bed is uncomfortable. A giant upholstered wing chair, overpriced bathrobe, and cashmere throw? Yes! Too bad I own none of these items!

I'm so anal that even if my hubby wanted to serve me breakfast in bed, it wouldn't work. For one, I am up way before dawn 7 days a week for 98% of the time to get a workout in before the craziness of the day sets in. On those rare 2% days that I do sleep in until, dare I say it, 6am or 6:30, I still have to shower before I can sit down to eat anything. And yet, I love to camp-go figure.

Hm, there's a ham, egg and cheese thingy my Mom made for Christmas. It's scrambled eggs, chopped ham and cheese wrapped in one of those storebought cresent roll dough that's been cut and folded over the top like a braid. You do the eggs and such the night before and then bake it in the morning. That might work.

Personally, I prefer breakfast at the table and then getting back in bed after to read or cuddle or whatever.

Oh, that reminds me to make the sticky buns tonight so I can just proof and toss them into the oven tomorrow morning!

Just had breakfast in bed this morning! Because I stayed home sick today. :( Scrambled eggs with a spoon, made by my dear partner before she ran off to work. I don't think that's the menu you were looking for!

One of my favourite things to do when I was a single person was to make a pot of earl grey tea and buttered toast with raspberry jam and take it back to bed to eat while I read a good book. I look forward to having a grown family so that I can fall back into m slovenly ways.

Except in cases of illness--when I might make my tea and toast and take it back to bed--I haven't had breakfast in bed for years.

But one of my best memories is the time my mom made apple muffins in honor of the first Saturday after the end of marching band competition season (meaning, the first Saturday in 10 weeks my sister and I hadn't had to be on a bus by 7 a.m.) and served us both breakfast in bed. It felt so luxurious and made me feel so loved.

I created this breakfast in bed recipe with the comfy romantic in mind. Eggs al Forno is a simple baked egg dish that's made great by using amazing bread and a good Italian cheese.

Ugh, the idea of breakfast in bed is unappealing the me. Crumbs plus my snuggly, warm blankets? No thank you! Dessert in bed is good- chocolates, ice cream, bring it on! But breakfast isn't complete without some good toast and I do not want to lay my head down on toast shards later that night.

Breakfast in bed on your birthday is tradition in my family. The breakfast itself is usually some sort of pastry with a candle stuck in it, coffee and/or juice, but is sometimes something slightly more ambitious like an omelet or french toast. It's a great way to wake up- to the rest of the family singing happy birthday, the candle light, the food, and the presents!
