Recipe Recommendation: Spicy Parsnip Soup

2009_01_21-spicy-parsnip-soup.jpgYesterday, we talked about experimenting with spices and winter vegetables. Today, we've found a recipe that does exactly that. It's a spicy parsnip soup from a blog that's all about, well, spice!

If parsnips are one of the vegetables you fear, this simple recipe from Jane Spice may change your mind. They're simmered in stock with softened celery, onion and garlic and then punched up with a mixture of coriander, cumin, turmeric and chili powder.

We love soups like this one that are pureed to a creamy consistency yet keep it light without any actual cream.

In addition to spice-centric recipes, Jane Spice features an index with introductions to nearly 40 spices, including a couple that are new to us. Are you familiar with asafoetida or nigella? We're anxious to give them a try!
